IPv6 Request For Comments

Requests for CommentsRequest For Comments (RFCs) are the standards that define the protocols and services for the Internet, making it accessible from a wide range of vendor hardware and software. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is the organisation responsible for the development, management and publication of these standards. The mission of the IETF is to make the Internet work better by producing high quality, relevant technical documents that influence the way people design, use, and manage the Internet. The members of the IETF come from the ICT industry, academic and government organisations. The standards documents are reasonably easy to read and understand.

I encourage you to at least read RFC 2460 which is one of the main RFCs that describe IPv6.
